Comments: I am writing this on behalf of my mother who graduated in 1947. Her maiden name was Deloris Ann
McCollam,the only daughter of the late Mac McCollam and the late GaVaughan McCollam Jarcy. She had 3 older brothers
Charles W. class of 1944, Robert V. class of 1945, and George W. the class of 1946. I am sorry to say my mother
passed away in March of 1999, from cancer.

Comments: After graduating I worked for the telephone company in Beckley for 18 years. I married Joseph
Johnson from Mount Hope in 1953. We had three sons. We left Prosperity in 1966 and moved to Moorefield, WV where
his job took us, then back to Charleston in 1971. Left Charleston in 1981 and moved to Lewisburg and remained there until
August, 2004. Joe passed away June 2003. We had been married 50 years and 4 months. I am living here in Charlotte, NC. Would
love to hear from any of my classmates.

Comments: Me and my wife of 47 years Shirley Johnson Biggs (WWHS Class of '52)
have lived in Roanoke since 1958. We have three grown children and seven grandchildren. I retired
from Appalachian Power Company, January 1, 1995 after having worked for them 44 years and 4 months.
Shirley retired from Roanoke County School System after 23 years. Would appreciate hearing from anyone
I went to school with. Memories and pictures fade with time and a renewal of old acquaintances would be welcomed.

time in Beckley, I've really lost touch. I am retired from teaching in Fairfax Co. Schools in Va for 32
years and spent more years working in Perot Systems Corp.
My husband and I, tired of the rat race, moved to the country. It was good to read of some of the people
I once knew and would love to know again.

Comments: Anna Jean Porterfield-Vandall passed away on October 27, 2001.
Jean was born in Beckley and graduate of WWHS, class of 1947. Jean married Coy
Bradley Vandall, and moved to Florida. She worked for Woolworths Department Store
in Beckley, as well as in Florida. She raised five children. Jean passed away at her
home in Crystal River, Florida under the care of her daughters, who are registered nurses.
At age 73, her fight with Lou Gehrig's Disease was over. She is survived by her husband of fifty years,
Coy B. Vandall of Crystal River, Fl.; four daughters, Teresa Rogers of Bushnell, Chris Vandall-Eades of Crystal River,
Tammy Smith of Brooksville, Tracey Robinson of St. Augustine, a Son; Scott Vandall of Tampa and two sisters, Betty Wriston
and Evelyn Roop both of Maple Fort, W.Va., Twelve grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Jean was buried at Indian Hill
cemetery on October 31, 2001.

Comments: I beleive my father ROBERT LEE LAWSON graduated with this class.
He was born in 1929 in Beckley. I never knew him, due to my parents divorce when
I was young. I am sorry to say that he passed away in Oct. 1985. If ANY of you have
any information, stories, or if you even knew of him please email me so that I may
learn who my father was and at least honor him by keeping his memory alive. I thank
you for your time and apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused.

(O. Lee Miller) and I moved to Inverness from Beckley in 1990. I have four grown

in 45...we just had our 50th wedding anniversary last christmas eve...we have
a farm about 10 mi from beckley behind the crossroads mall and raise
sheep...chickens...dogs...and cats (4 cats left here)...we love the country
and will have been here 20 yrs in november after living in downtown beckley
for 30 yrs...our daughter dona (71) died 1/15/01 after a 10 yr bout with breast
cancer and our younger daughter ellen (72) lives about 1000 ft behind us with
her 2 sons...we really enjoyed both of our 50th class reunions several yrs
back...we have 2 big ponds and lots of fish to catch...come see us and bring
