Comments: Few days from the death of Sonny (George) Gunter, and I'm still in a state of shock. Sonny will be missed greatly by this wonderful WWHS class of 1952. So sad.

Pat and I live in the woods of Sugar Grove OH. Been out here for 18 years. Have four great and wonderful offspring and two grandchildren who live in TX. Pat retired from Lucent 1999 and is having one heck of a good time playing golf, volunteer ramp builder for handicap, and keeping me happy. :-) Health has been a problem for me for several years, but there's no giving up, I'm still kicking.....ask Pat. :-) I still do some weaving and spinning of wool or whathaveyou.

Comments: Some sad news. As most of you know, my Bill passed away Feb. 22nd. We've been together since senior year at WWHS. It's been very rough, but I'm comforted by knowing he's no longer suffering as he did the past few months.

Comments: It's now Flora Duh for this old soldier who isn't planning to fade away any time soon. Who could ask for more! Alice and I were married on Valentines day (14 Feb. for you men) the year was 1953. We met at Little Beaver summer of 52, I saw Her on the dance floor and just had to introduce myself. We have been together through thick and thin, three wonderful children, constantly moving on Army orders a trip to Vietnan where I commanded an INFANTRY unit. Retired after 28 years of service with the rank of LTC. Thanks be to God for His manifold blessings

Comments: Alice Asbury of Sophia were married on 14 Feb 1953, first of three children born on 14 Dec 1953. We also have two grandchildren. Served in the US Army for twenty eight years. Served one tour in Vietnam as an Infantry unit commander. Retired in 1981 with the grade of LT. COL. My great regret in life has been the silence of my early years concerning my Christian faith. I am now able to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope within me, with gentleness and respect. Our 50th reunion was for Alice and I a highlight, along with the 45th. Hope to attend other gatherings of the greatest class.

Comments: Update, Aug.5-2003. Hi everyone, current update. Living in Highlands since Dec. 1994. Partner in mountain rental cabins, we "built them ourselves" just out of town, surrounded by national forest in a beautiful setting. Elevation 3200', Beckley elev. 1950 (est.) Cool nights and warm days, a great temprate area. Just finished a 7 week run of "Wizard of Oz" at our local playhouse. Hard on old men! (and women). Our class reunion last year was for me very hectic but wonderfully rewarding. Wish could have spent more time just talking with everyone. Many persons are mistified by the value placed on antiques by some. When you meet fellow classmates anew, a feeling of great value and immense trust comes over with each embrace. Todays "throw-a-way" world pales badly against the antiques we know and cherish. God bless and keep in touch. Sonny

I have had some health problems over a number of years
(cancer, heart & diabeties) but still fighting.
David has had bouts with cancer & 2 heart attacks but is still working.

Comments: I've been married to Lonnie Gunter, Jr. for 47 years this month. We have two daughters, 3 grandsons and one granddaughter. One daughter is in advertising in Columbus, Ohio and the other one is a RN. I still work part time at the Beckley VAMC as an oncology RN. I just returned, fron a Medical Mission trip to Nicaragua, Oct. 12,2002. This was my sixth short term mission trip. I love to travel, walk, read and bird watch. Life has been good.

Comments: Now living single in the city of St.Albans. Farm and married life didn't work out. Working(?) as a building manager at the Nitro Community Center 4 hrs daily. Had a great time working on the 50th reunion especially with George Gunter who spent days in scripting, attempting to line up people with various talents, etc. etc. I was truly happy to see the class of '52...sure we all have changed, but isn't that expected after 50 years? I'm greatful to have been seen, no matter how many wrinkles, pounds etc. And for those who didn't attend, make sure you don't misss the next one. Comments: Work for Continental Airlines as a Flight Simulator Engineer. Twice married. 4 children (2 boys, 2 girls). 4 grandchildren, all boys via 1st marriage. Current (and last) wife, Tina Oiler of Iowa. Married 31 years. Plan on retiring in the fall of '03. Still having too much fun. Travel a great deal. Hobbies include genealogy and writing. I also enjoy working on our land in Burleson county, Texas. My sons live in Hawaii. One on Kauai, the other on Maui. Typically visit twice a year but am slowing down the visits. Worked for the telphone company for a number of years in WV, D.C. and spent four years in NYC working as a Business Systems Analyist for Bell Laboratories. Took early retirement in 1985. Began art lessons while in NYC and continue learning over the years. My passion is for portraiture. Active in the local Sister City Association which has taken me to Southern France a number of times - twice as a guest of the French Government. Married A. C. Comments: Just discovered this website. I am Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Charles Webb Company, Inc., a national fund raising firm specializing in the arts. After transfering from WVU to Chapel Hill, I went on to graduate school at the University of Wisconsin. Moved to NYC in 1971 and became Development Consultant on staff of The Metropolitan Museum of Art there, and founded my own company in 1974. I have also kept up with my writing, having pubilshed poetry over the years, have just brought out my first novel, "Jake and Jasmine", a love story. Several other books are in the works. I hope to make the 50th anniversary.

Comments: I went to WVU my Freshman year, then went into the Army in June 53. I served two years in 11th Airborne Division. I married Jeanette Haynes from the class of 53. We were married in 54, and have two sons, Rocky and Danny, and one super granddaughter. We have a furniture manfacturing business which Jeanette and Rocky operate. Jeanette handles the business end and Rocky the shop. I work for HCA and have been in healthcare management since 69. I sometime think about retirement, but have been blessed with good health and still enjoy developing managers. We plan to be "back home" this summer for the reunion. See you then!

Comments: I married Margaret Stafford in "53 and we had three children and seven grandchildren. We attended WVU as freshmen and moved to California in '54. We will celebrate our 49th next August.
We are looking forward to The Big One for the class of '52. I am in constant contact with Coach Van Meter and he is doing fine, he will be 102 in August. We all owe a debt of gratitude to Jack Groseclose and Jo Lee for the attention they pay Coach. They really do everything for him and he could not do without the help.

Comments: Well Hello! I ran across the W.W.H.S. web page a few weeks ago and have enjoyed the notes and information there . I have now been retired since May of 1995 after more than 25 years with Virginia Tech. as an Instrument Maker Supervisor in the Dept. of Wood Science & Forest Products. I am still married to the " Love of my life " now 44 yrs. the former Frances "Gerry" Richardson, and we have one daughter, Tammy, which is now Director of Administration, West Virginia Water Research Institute at West Virginia University, Morgantown, W.Va. We are still very active in gardening, traveling, our church activities, and I also very much enjoy riding around the country on my "Honda Goldwing" motorcycle !! We enjoy coming back to the Beckley, W.Va. area and visiting with old friends and would like to also hear from former schoolmates. Keep up the "Good Work" on the web page !!!!!!

Comments: I want to express my appreciation for this web page. We enjoy reading it now and then to see who has come aboard. Margie (Stafford) and I attended WVU for our freshman year and were married in '53. We will celebrate our fourty eighth this August. We have been blessed with three wonderful children and seven very special grand children.
We have adjusted to the West Coast where we landed in '54. God has blessed us exceedingly. We try to attend every reunion and keep up with as many as we can.
I talk to Coach every week, sometimes as many as three times. He is well and very sharp at almost 101. We would love to hear from all of you from '52.

Comments: Hi, everyone. Most bio info in Nancy's entry - she's my computer guru. Actually, I can dismantle a 747 down to the last screw AND put it all back together, but these computers are something else. This old dog refuses to learn any new tricks. WWHS web site may change my mind -- it's nice hearing from and about old friends. After WWHS, I spent 4 years in the Air Force maintaining helicopters, then graduated from Embry Riddle School of Aviation in Miami. Worked for Eastern Air Lines in Miami and Birmingham for 30 years before it crashed, then 10 years for Airborne Express. Retired now and playing a lot more golf - love it! A big HELLO to all the old gang from Calloway Heights. If you're ever in the neighborhood, give us a call.

Comments: This is really NEAT! Visited JoLee Daniels recently and found out about this cool web site. For a little bio, married classmate Bill Bivins in 1953 (for a match that most thought would last 6 months at best, we're going on 48 years!). We have two children, Gary, born in 1955 and Amanda, 17 years later (she was our "do it yourself" grandchild). Gary and his lovely wife have given us 2 wonderful grandsons and they live in Cincinnati. Amanda lives near us and is very active in Community Theater (her mother's daughter for sure). Bill worked as a mechanic for Eastern Airlines for 30 years before they went belly-up, and then for Airborne Express for 10 years. He retired November, 2000 and enjoys it something fierce. He's playing more golf and "tinkering", doing all the little things he never had time for. I still work 3 days a week as office manager for private investigator/polygrapher. Have no plans to "retire" any time soon 'cause I'm having too much fun. Didn't mean to ramble on so long and take up so much space. Would love to hear from classmates.

Comments: This is a great way to stay in touch with our classmates. I have been to three or four reunions and enjoyed them very much. My husband and I have five daughters (combined) and eleven grandchildren. We enjoy traveling, working in our church, and just beinging retired. My mother who is 87 years old lives within a mile of us in a retirement home. We go back to visit in Beckley about four times a year. I still have an aunt, who is 96 years old, living alone in Crab Orchard. Would like to hear from Joyce Robinson who was a good friend in high school.

Comments: After my stay at WVU I taught school and coached BB and FB at Southern Hi In MD. We (my wife Carolyn Hill From Hillsboro -- my mothers home town, and son John) leeft Md., to join my sister and her family in Columbus, OH. At the same time I changed professions to Data Processing. It was here that we had a second son, Keith, in 1965. I eventually ended up at Ohio State University and retired from there in 1988. After retirement I joined the Professional Bowling Assn and bowled on the senior tour. We currently have a bowlers pro shop and still do some of the Pro Bowling tournaments.

I worked for the FBI, General Electric and Fairfax County, VA. I retired in 1994 and my husband and I moved to AZ. I love it here. We have one son who is now 30, whom we adopted when he was 3years old. We were neighbors of John and Joyce Reid for 15 years when we lived in VA. I have only been to my 10th Class Reunion but I am hoping to attend the 50th.

Comments: I now have a pc at home and this is my new email address. I was sad to hear about Danny Williams. The summer of 1952 I helped keep score of the Warren Williams junior baseball games, and I was the scorekeeper when he pitched a no-hitter. He was probably the best all-around athlete I had seen at Woodrow. Would like to know what happened to Charles Webb and David Clower, two of my best buds. I know that Frank Frazier retired from the FBI a few years ago. We used to give him a hard time when he was a ticket taker at the Palace Theater.

Comments: I attended Roanoke Business College after graduation. In 1956 I married classmate Jim Gunther. We have one son who is a research chemist, one daughter who is in advertising and two grandsons who we try real hard to spoil as much as possible. I worked in accounting and media accounting before finding a home in restaurant equipment purchasing. I retired in 1992 as Purchasing Manager for the Long John Silvers Seafood chain. Since then I have enjoyed traveling, shopping, and buying as many purses and shoes as possible.

Comments: I joined the Navy for four years after graduation. Shortly after getting out of the Navy in 1956 I married classmate Glenda McKinney. We have one son who is a research chemist, one daughter who is in advertising and two grandsons who we try real hard to spoil as much as possible. I worked for IBM for 38 years. I retired in 1991 and then spent 7 years consulting and doing retirement things. Now I mostly do retirement things like visiting children and grand children, golf, traveling, golf, photography, golf, etc.
