Hope you are doing well. Retirement is keeping me busy. I mentor 4th graders,
read to children at the library and counsel people who want to start a business.
In between the above I bicycle 4 to 5 days a week and visit the grandchildren in
Northern California every 4 to 6 weeks. Myrna and I will be going to Nashville
in June to attend Myrna's 50th reunion. We'll spend a week in Tennessee for

Comments: Hi everyone. This is the first visit here I think since 2004. I was
so sad when I couldn't attend the 50th class reunion in 2007. Health problems
prevented me from attending. Seems like since I moved to this place, Sparks, NV,
I have been sick ever since. Hope to move from here one of these days. Have had
many surgeries but I am still going strong. My last surgery was Jan.2009 and it
has been the easiest surgery I have had. Great doctors here in Sparks. I do have

After leaving Beckley we moved to Florida...graduated from HS in Jacksonville then attended University of Florida for one semester. Left FL and returned to the north. I went to Ferrum Jr. College for 2 years and transfered to Concord College in WV and graduated in Jan 1965. Taught and coached in Northern Virginia (West Springfield HS) until I retired in 1994. I have a lovely wife and 4 grown sons who are all married and we have 7 grandchildren (5 girls and 2 boys) until December when we will have another granddaughter. We live near the Outer Banks of NC and are enjoying the retired life. I would love to hear from any and all of you buddies!

Comments: After graduation I worked in retail sales one year before attending nursing school. I graduated from C&O School of Nursing in 1961, married my childhood sweetheart in 1962. Worked in various hospitals until 1975, joined my husband in his real estate business working in sales for fifteen years, office manager for two of those years. I have two sons, Paul who graduated from CFU with bachelors in computer science, Don who has his own electrical business, have one grandchild who will be in high school next fall. My husband and I are retired, have been to WVa only few times since graduation, hope to attend at least one reunion while I am still mobile, I enjoy Florida but still miss the hills, been married forty five years, active in my church, enjoy many hobbies but most of all my grandaughter who is my pride and joy. I enjoy reading about my classmates. Hope to be at the next class reunion.

I sure was sorry to miss the 50th reunion, but we were in the middle of moving; after spending 5 years traveling in our motorhome, we moved into a house in a Sun City development just north of Austin. You'd think it would be easy moving out of a motorhome, but it was not. It was , in fact, exhausting and not an experience I care to repeat any time soon. It was suggested by an old classmate that I log onto this site
and post a message. So here goes.
I sometimes wish that I was back in wild and wonderful WVA. I
get nostalgia on the short trips I do make back there to visit
the Epling graveyard in Flat Top where my Mom and Dad are buried.
Just want to let you all know that I went from graduating from
WWHS in 1957 to enlisting in the US Navy five days out of high
school. I spent 30 years in the Navy and had a wonderful and
very exciting career. I rose up through the enlisted ranks and
made Senior Chief Petty Officer. Then the Navy selected me for
the Chief Warrant Officer Program and I spent 13 years as a Navy
Officer. I got to go to some other wild and wonderful places
(Turkey, Guam, Japan, Scotland, Alaska, Okinawa, Philippines, and
Puerto Rico were my overseas assignments. In the states I had
instructor duty in Pensacola, FL. and again instructor duty at
the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, MD. My last tour of
duty was here in Chesapeake, VA where I retired from the Navy in
1987. I taught at Tidewater Community College for about 7 years as
an adjunct professor. Along with the teaching I dabbled in real
estate and sold a few houses, actually getting quite good at it.
In 2002 I retired totally and now fish in my boat, ride my all
terrain vehicle, and play golf about once a week.
I have two wonderful children and one adopted daughter. My son,
Bill Jr., got his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech (Go
Hokies!) and his PHD in Chemical Engineering from the University
of Florida. He is now a college professor at the University of
Waterloo just outside of Toronto, Canada. My daughter Patricia
graduated from East Carolina University and is teaching 4th grade
in Orlando, FL. My adopted daughter lives here in Chesapeake and
is the Comptroller at Armada Hoffler, a large construction company.
Anyway, it seems over the years I have lost touch with my old
classmates from both WWHS and Sylvia Grade School. Many of my years
in the Navy were spent overseas and I did not get to get back to
Beckley very often. While I read about the reunions with interest,
I just haven't been able to get (for one reason or another) back for one.
But, don't hold it against me, I still miss all of you guys and gals.

Comments: It is difficult to summarize 50 years...Got married while in college, began teaching in Fairfax County, Va. in 1961, got divorced after 10 years, best gift of the marriage was my daughter, Kimberly who received her Master's from M.U. and is doing diabetes research and training fellows for Internal Medicine at the Medical School here in Huntington. She is married and has blessed me with two wonderful grandsons. Now back to me--After teaching 16 years, having my MA in Counseling, I became Lead Counselor at Huntington High School. I retired in 2000. I met my "special friend" after retirement and we have traveled to many parts of the world--8 countries in Europe, Greece, Turkey, Israel, and Egypt. I can attest to the fact that life can begin at 62 and continue. I am so sorry that I missed the 50th reunion; I was planning to attend but Bowie had back surgery and I did not want to leave him. I enjoy seeing the pictures and reading about the "gathering."

Comments: The 50th reunion event was wonderful. Seeing classmates, meeting their spouses, hearing about their careers, their children and grandchildren was a special happening. Those who felt the cost was too high or that they "had nothing in common" with their classmates, were wrong. They had all of the above in common.
Special thanks to Lois, Colette, Frank, and the rest of the reunion committee for their efforts. This reunion will be remembered for their time, interest and devotion to the class of 1957.

Comments: Hi to so many I have not seen in 25 and 50 years. Last time in Beckley was '04 for my brother, Paul's 45th reunion. Got to see Bill Shannon there. This will be my second reunion. My wife, Sharon and 2 daughters came to the 25th. We made our home in Binghamton NY for the past 48 years. God blessed us with 4 kids, Brian, Becky, Joel, and Joanne. We are now living temporarily in Manassas VA to help our youngest and her husband with their 3 kids. Joanne wanted to go back to work and 'invited' us to come live with them in the 'outlaw' apartment which takes up the downstairs of their home. We have reserved our spot at the 50th reunion so will see many there.
I retired in '98 from Universal Instruments in Binghamton NY. Last 15 years worked as a training instructor teaching customers and field engineers the operation, programming, maintenance, and installation of the machines that UIC makes for the electronics industry.
After retirement, Sharon and I spent 5 years as Associate Missionaries in Mexico for New Tribes Mission teaching in the Binimea MK School in Chihuahua MX. Comments: Just logged on and saw the news of the passing of Richard "One Play" Petry. The name "One Play"
came about when Richard scored a touchdown in our last game of the season our senior year against Hinton.
It was the only varsity down he ever played. This is story that he told me at our lockers the morning of the game,
that on the night before he had a dream about scoring a touchdown.
By the way Richard never missed a day of practice during his three years as a Flying Eagle. Fly high my friend. Viya Con Dios!!

Comments: When I left Beckley after graduation I moved to Nashville Tenn and did not keep in touch with anyone.
I moved from Nashville to Northern Virginia divorced and now live in Herndon, Virginia (about 15 miles from Washington DC near Dulles International Airport). I took an early retirement as manager of the legal department for
NALC Health Benefit Plan. Have been a Real Estate Broker since 1970 and when I left the Insurance company bought "The Oldest Real Estate Office in Herndon", Herndon Realty. I sold the business a couple of years
ago thinking I would take another retirement however, I continued working as an Associate Broker with the Herndon Realty. I don't know where my path will lead next or when I will discover what I want to do when I grow up, what ever it is
it must be fun and interesting. Life has been good to me and I am in excellent health. It is so sad to read about the class mates that are no longer with us and/or are in poor health.
I am blessed with a large wonderful family, two sons, one daughter, 5 granddaughters, 2 grandsons and 2 great granddaughters and 1 great grandson. With so many children I spend as much of my time as possible on the road seeing them and their family grow.
In addition to spending time with my family, Real Estate, I am past president of Herndon Rotary Club, Rotary International District 7610 Treasurer, Virginia AARP Community Coordinator, Queen Mum to 122
"Ladies with HATtitude Red Hat Society and I present programs for other community groups.
Also, for fun I enjoy scrapbooking, stamping, beading, taking photos, my pets,(an adopted greyhound-Peanut she is now 15, an a 4 year old Chihuahua-Angel),and I take as many cruise trips as time will allow each year.

Moved to Detroit, MI in my junior year, so I did not graduate from WWHS in 1957,
but I did attended Sprague Grade School and BJHS.
I attended the First Methodist Church in Beckley, where I was in Girl Scouts and sang in the church youth
choir. Many familiar names and faces in this site.
I live in sunny So Cal with my husband Richard of 45 years. I have a son Mike and a lovely daughter
in law Debbie and three wonderful grand daughters, Kristine, Becky and Jaclyn. I am a retired RN and
currently completing a degree in theatre arts. (yes at my age!)

This is the first time I've tried to contact anyone from my WWHS class. I remember many of the people
from the classes of '55, '56 and '57. I left Beckley in July 1956 for a career in the Air Force. I came back
for a few months in 1960 but left again in early '61 to complete my military career. I still have relatives
in the Beckley area and have visited a number of times over the years.
I'm currently retired and live in Brandon, MS with my wife Linda. Brandon is a suburb of Jackson. We
have 4 sons between us and (at last count) 11 grandchildren. I do plan to attend the WWHS reunion in
June and hope to see many of my old classmates then. I would love to hear from anyone that remembers me.

enjoy our retirement home in the foothills of the Blue Ridge (we are about 30 miles North of Clemson SC). Not much

Comments: I am updating my alumni registration.
I came to Columbus on 2/25/60 with my brother after a 2-1/2 years at WVIT. I enjoyed college, but did not like going to class.
I worked on the assembly line at Westinghouse for 6 months before going to Battelle Memorial Institute for the next 35 years.
Married Joyce McGaughy on June 30, 1962. Joyce also worked at Battelle. Joyce and I have three sons, (Jason '65), (Jeremy '68), and (Jonathon '70).
I took an early retirement package from Battelle in 1994. I continued to work at Battelle on a part time basis for another 6 years.
Fully retired now with married sons and three grand-daughters. Jason married Muge and live in Westerville, OH with daughters Ariel age 9
and Peri age 6. Jeremy married Maggie and lives in Washington, DC with daughter Emma age 6. Jonathon and Tonya live in Greenwood, SC. Joyce
and I have lived in the same house since 1968. We now share the four bedrooms with John and Jane Doe (our foundlings). John is 12 or 13, mix
breed shepard an Jane who I adopted off of North High St. last Dec. is 4 or 5 year old siberian husky.
I am currently employed at Columbus's Champions golf course (free golf). Enjoy fly fishing here and in Greenwood. Catching has been a
problem in Ohio, but Greenwood Lake is great. Still painting oils and watercolors.

I suppose I should update my information given in April, 2001. I now live in Carson City, Nevada. I actually
moved the week before our reunion last year. I am taking a LONG vacation from being a nurse (that sounds better
than retiring..I'm not old enough to retire...or am I?) Anyway, I am enjoying all my free time to do all the good
things that life has to offer. I have one son who lives in Reno (just 30 minutes away) and enjoy spending time
with him. My other son and grandson still live in Calif. (I miss them) but I go there often to visit and they come here,
also. It's only three hours away. It was such a joy to be at the reunion last year and see everyone. Frog, Lois
and the gang really made it a perfect memory! Thanks...

Comments: It's hard to believe that in July it will be a year since the 45th reunion. That was a fun event.
Myrna is going to retire next year, after 35 years as an elementary teacher, but I'm still going strong. I work
four days a week in a dermatology practice as the office manager.
Last year I only put 4000 miles on my bicycle, however, having Monday's off now I'm sure to increase the mileage.
We're truly enjoying our 28 mo. old grandson Nathan. Being a grandparent is wonderful, as many of you know.
Our plans are to visit Beckley either the first or second week of July. I hope to get together with you local school mates when I visit.

It has been interesting to look at all the pictures and read the news of my fellow classmates. I married
my highschool boyfriend Eugene (Gene) Dickerson, class of 54. We have been married 44 years. We have one
daughter, Pam, and she gave us a grandson, John William.
We have lived in the Huntington area since l963. Gene is a retired principal and teacher. I am getting ready
to start my 30th year of teaching. Most of them in kindergarten. We both have enjoyed being Marshall fans
and following the Thundering Herd. I still keep track of WWHS sports.

Comments: First I would like to thank "Frog" and everyone else who made me feel that I belonged
to the "Class Of 1957". Although my time was severly limited (I had to be in Chicago on Sat. the 6th.), I enjoyed
being around all of y'all. My mom is still living and resides in Piney View and I also have several other
relatives in the area. So I do get back occasionally but I have lost track of most of my classmates. I rarely
see anyone but close family or neighbors. It seems that I am not alone as most of the addresses are from other
states.
Let me start by saying that I started with "The Class of 1957" in the 9th grade in 1953-54 but I graduated
with "The Class of 1958". I felt a little more comfortable with the 57 class so I asked "Frog" if I could attend
and he (along with others) welcomed me with open arms. A brief summary of my life since graduation would
read something like this: 1958-59 after graduating--worked with WVa Dept. of Highways. In 1959 I relocated
to Chicago where I went to work for Western Electric (Ma Bell). In 1960 shortly before being drafted, I enlisted
in the Air Force serving in Texas , the Phillipines, and Hawaii (3 yrs). Discharged in 1964 and returned to Chicago
and Ma Bell. In 1984 I was relocated to Reading, Pa. where I worked until retiring in 1995 (36.5yrs).
I never married although I had a couple of nice relationships. No children. Love to play GOLF and Guitar. Thanks
again to the mates at the Vineyard.

Comments: Hello to all! I married Ed Snuffer (WWHS 1958) in 1958. We
have 3 sons (all alumni of WWHS). Now have 7 Grandchildren. Ed and I have moved repeatably
to Ohio and Florida, but keep coming back to Beckley. We came back in 1971 and Ed entered
his father's building business and we have stayed put. I worked as Security Guard for U.S. Marshall's
Service and Custom Kitchen Designer for Brown's Lumber in Beckley. Before moving back from Cambridge,
Ohio; I worked at the Cambridge Ohio YMCA for Doug Lewis.
In 1996 Ed and I bought the family building business. We now own WESco homes, inc. at 1514 South Kanawha
Street in Beckley. Two of our 3 sons work with us. Our first born is in Columbus, Ohio.
I am the "Miracle Child" of several doctors as I have survived Lung Cancer-so far. Five years in September.
I SMOKED. I refused to believe my government would subsidize something that would cause cancer! NOW I KNOW
WHAT MY GOVERNMENT THINKS OF ME. I am doing great and no problems other then getting older.

A brief note to thank you most sincerely for all the pictures and
info you've been sending out of late. I really appreciate it and I
know our classmates do as well. It was especially moving to learn of
those who have died -- I sat here blinking back the tears.
From high school (I left Beckley after my junior year) I moved to VA
and continued my education and finally graduated from the University
of VA in 1962. Then it was on to Virginia Theological Seminary,
which I finished in '65, and in December of that year was ordained in
the Episcopal Church. And it's been my life since then. I've been
in parish work for nearly 35 years. Married. Divorced. Remarried.
2 children, 1 grandson and 4 step-kids and grand-steps.
Currently I've been living in upstate NY (close to Lake Placid);
we've been here since 1985, having moved up from Asheville, NC. I am
about 3 years before retirement and the odds are that we will settle
here or elsewhere in the northeast, which we have come to love. My
wife is a native of Newfoundland, so you never know.
I've always regretted not having graduated with you guys, but am
terribly thrilled to be included in the class notes. With all due
respect to the 'other high school, I always loved thinking of myself
as a Flying Eagle. Names like Wingler, Collier, Turner, Rappold,
Hurt, Williams, all come flooding back. I did manage to play Little
League and Babe Ruth League baseball. Our LL team was coached by
Gene Morehouse, who at the time was the sports guy at WWNR (Does
anyone remember Marv Stone?) and used to do the play-by-play of the
high schoolchampionship series along with Jack Fleming from
Morgantown. Some will remember that Gene died in the air crash of
the Marshall University football team. I was an assistant at
Trinity Church, Huntington at the time, and was able to meet his
widow Marge and talk about the tragedy. As a mememto, the gave me the
placque of Gene's being president of the Chamber of Commerce in
Beckley. It still hangs in my office at the church (I'm rambling
now, and I apologize).
I had so many good times with the likes of John (Baxter) James,
Walter (Earl) Rappold, Pete (John Raymond) Arnold, Jitterbug (Earl
Franklin) Gilbert, and so many others. Carol Green was one of the
sweetest people I ever knew, and so were Willie Timmons and Blanche
Estep. I remember learning to play poker with a bunch of others one
rainy afternoon on Larry Cole's front porch. I remember how very
nice and decent were Frank Meadows and Colette Minter and how happy I
was to learn they had found each other. Patty Pitzenberger (sweet).
Joyce Lewis, who lived across the street on South Kanawha St, and a
good pal. Teen Town. "The Syndicate." And so many other things
most of you probably take for granted. I can even remember when
Bruno was beaned in a baseball game, and his mom came tunbling down
the hill to be with him (this was long before plastic batting
helmets).
So many stories, so many unrecovered friends. As the old WW II song
has it, "Bless 'em all, the long and the short and the tall...." I've
had a good life and I hope the rest of you have had one, too. Let's
hope we all have miles to go.....
It's an honor to be associated with such a fine and wonderful group
of people.

a hitch in the USMC and practiced vet med in King, NC until 1985.
Started a cable TV system in the King area which I sold in 1991.

second wife Paula. I have three children and four and 1/2 (due 1/02)
grandchildren. Paula has one son who is tired of college and about
ready to join USMC. We raise beef cattle on our small farm and I
co-own a large Southern States Farm, Home and Garden Store (Carthage
Farm Supply). I am a trustee at our local Sandhills Community College
and spend a good deal of time with its business. Incidently, I am
conducting an Oral History Project of WWII and Korean War veterans
through the college. We travel a good bit and are enjoying life. If

my Classmates of 57. The years have passed quickly and it
appears all of us have been blessed with good jobs and plenty of children
and grand-children. I just moved back to the Northern Virginia Area in March 2000.
We lived in Troutville, Virginia for 12 years but sold our place and moved back up north.
We have two children, 5 grand-children and 1 great grand-child. I retired in 1988 after
32 years government service. My husband, Bob, whom I have been married to for 38 yrs. was
in the building business for many years in the Northern Va. Area. Our son lives on the
next street over from us and my daughter lives in Roanoke, Va. They have both been blessed

in the band. I played baritone and also viola in the orchesta. At All
State Orchestra, some other band director decided to tune my
instrument and he broke a string which I had to skip that whole
concert. I don't know why he picked me, but I still remember that
evening! I attended Girls' State in the summer of 1956, and we moved
to FL. due to my father's health. I enjoyed my senior year at
Melbourne High School, but I would have been with the class of 1957
in case you are trying to find me. I graduated from Orange Memorial
Hospital as an R.N. in Orlando (1960.) I married in 1962 and we moved
to Sacramento, Ca. We had twin sons in 1965 and another son in 1968.
I have a granddaughter-7 and two grandsons 4 & 1 and another grandson
due on May 2 2nd. I was the " professional " volunteer from PTSA
Pres. to Moderator of Deacons and the Presbyterian Women. Cub Scout
Leader and every office inbetween to the San Juan Superindentant's
Council. It was volunteeer pay (free) but worth the effort. We moved
to San Diego, Ca in 1993, and the weather is great here!! My husband
died June 4th, 2000. (He was Mark Anthony so after introducing myself with
my maiden name of Dorsey, etc. I would then say that I married Mark
Anthony and that I was Cleopatra!!!) Somehow they even remembered my

Comments: What a great idea and great way to get back intouch
with old friends. I graduated with the class of 1957 and was a
member of the band and orchestra. After 27 years of marriage to Tom
McManamay, class of 1954, we did the big D Thing and five years ago I
remarried to Frank Burke of PA, a retired Air Force Col. and Jet
Fighter Pilot. We presently live in South Riding, VA and both still
working. I have been working with a large national consturuction
company for 17 1/2 years in the office manager and travel manager
position. We have great plans to retire in Point Harbor, NC, about 1
mile from the Outer Banks of NC. I would love to hear from
classmates especially some of the Holy and Unholy 10 (you know who

WWHS. Then I entered graduate school at The George Washington
University, where I obtained an MBA in Hospital Administration in
1964. While serving my residency in Hospital Administration at
Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida I met a Southern
"beauty", namely: Vivian Diane O'Quinn, which I married in June,
1965. We have 2 children, Jason and Shannon. Jason has a 3 year old
