I watched the race and saw the wreck but for 1.5 hours I thought that Dale would just waltz out and say ""What a race""!. That never happened. I am going to a memorial tonight in Welcome at the RCR shops with some friends to try to work through this. I can't believe it racing will never be the same.

Subject: Gross and unhappy former WWHS people??
Date: Sunday 18-Feb-2001 22:09:35
Message: First some times I have capitolized my name like the last post line--sorry but mostly it's lower caps and yes the ""mini me"" has always done it in Caps although now they will read this and stop???
You can always tell it is me by how I post and by what I SAY. 007 said it perfect ""when God made the King we broke the mold.""
I never ask for any info other than one's preferred wing dippage :)
I am concerned about WWHS alumni and the current
education process in Raleigh Co. I do deal constantly with all the schools in Raleigh Co.
I never try to get to know anyone but the teachers because that's who I deal with!!!
I have never nor will I ever ask for info on the net. I like being my own little 'cigar king' and having my friends like... well you know them.
Trixy whoever she/he is--all I know is that she/he is a student at WWHS--asked if anyone knew what happened last year and what was going on this year and how our graduations went.
So as others have stated if you look only at a line that refers to other lines yet remark freely well then you are doing exactly what everone else has done. Made yourself look silly. Now as I always say POST ON! How you look is how you look.
I appreciate the song I have missed the singing so as an ending I shall give one more.
It was sang as a finale by another ""King"" ...
I've lived a life that's full
I've traveled each and every byway
I've posted where I wanted
And asked you to say it your way.
Now I've made it pure and clear
I want those Kellyites out of here
And ask each one....of you today
Go & say ""I DID IT MY WAY!""
Thank you thank you very much!

Subject: Why is WVU scared of MARSHALL? and other thoughts people are talking about
Date: Saturday 17-Feb-2001 00:09:52
Message: Does anyone else think its odd that:
1. Notre Dame Football will play WVU on a 3 at home 1 in Morgantown basis but the Mounties continue to evade Marshall even when ""Bob's Boys"" offer 3 in Morgantown to every one in Huntington???? It's quite obvious to the rest of America ESPN included that MU and WVU are much more similar football programs than Notre Dame and WVU are. Quit evading the Herd Rich and Dave. You two talk of your big stadiums and even bigger program but outside the Big East Marshall has much more respect and name recognition these days.
2. WVU will play MU in basketball in Charleston every year? Does Gale Catlett have more manhood than we give him credit for??? Or will football between the two require the same sort of legislative pressure required that forced them to play basketball in Charleston of all places every year?
3. That Bob Bolen might quite possibly be the next Bobby Knight or John Wooden. Laugh if you must but the Cougars have become a force to be reckoned with. Maybe if Don Nehlen and Gale Catlett had done a little time in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference they might have had more respected Division I careers. Bowden Rodriquez Greg White..... Bob Bolen is a shoe-in to hit it big some day.
4. The University of Florida a probable pre-season number 1 this year doesn't run from the Herd. Maybe if WVU played a little more competitive out of conference schedule like UF they too would be ready to run with the ""Big Boys"" teams like Florida Clemson North Carolina Tennessee Michigan State Georgia - all TWSM Teams who schedule Marshall.
5. Marshall like the WVIAC has become a ""Cradle of Coaches and Quarterbacks"" in its own right with names like Pruett Donnan White Pennington Payton and all the rest of MU's ""living legends"".
6. Cigar King please do not respond to any of this. I don't

And I never played footbal or soccer nor was I in the band or the drama club??
But if I ws it wouldn't have mattered to what I became???
All of you who ever played in a band the Drama club or was on a soccer team...are you going to stand up for yourselves...or yet don't let the child go to sleep. He will tire of making so many mistakes as posting as me!!

Message: 1. WVU is not scared to play Marshall. It is beneath their dignity to play any MAC team on the road. If Marshall had been allowed to join a better conference (ACC Big East ect..) West Virginia would play them on the road 1 for 1 like they do Maryland (who is probably a MAC level team). Marshall has no one to blame but themselves and their Conference affiliation.
2. WVIAC coaches have generally made a pretty good name for themselves at the next level however coaching is not always about your successes. More often than not it's who you know and how lucky you are. Does anyone really believe Don Nehlen would ever have coached Division I football if he had started coaching at Concord College fifteen years ago? Of course not. He'd be at Gauley Bridge now instead of Coach Mullett. Coach Nehlen was in the right places at the right times and used his contacts to his advantage to land his WVU spot twenty years ago.
3. Bob Bolen reminds me more of Rick Pitino than Bob Knight.
4. Marshall ""Cradle of Coaches and Quarterbacks""? Will MU grads and/or attendees ever get it? I doubt it they get so pumped up beating Kent State every year that they've lost all sense of reality. Jeff Hostetler Major Harris Bobby Bowden? Edge to WVU.

If I had felt that I was in danger I wouldn't have posted anymore. And I have to say that it's really sad that alumni or so-called alumni still get their kicks by playing the high school rumor game. It's over folks. It's time to grow up and move on. As to the band people some of you probably know me and if you realized it you'd kick yourself in the a$$ for being so stupid. Message: For your information I have three children and two nephews that will be attending Woodrow. I am very interested to know what goes on there...whatever happens in the present has an effect on the future. We are not concerned about the students ""lives"" we are concerned about how and why things are done at Woodrow. We have not asked for any personal info from any students at Woodrow. A student asked our opinion on a very legitimate concern she had about the administration at Woodrow. And that is what all the message threads have been about. There is some sicko that has intruded and tried to make things look different than what they are but ignorance like that needs to be ignored.
What kind of ""interaction"" are you referring to?? Please make yourself more clear. The administration at Woodrow has nothing to do with this board. Jeff Miller designed and maintains it (and does and exceptional job!) I'm sure if he was ""bothered"" by or dissaproved of any the posts he would say something...he has in the past. He also have the ability to delete anything he feels is inappropriate. If you people would just follow the threads in proper order you would see that NOTHING is going on here!!

Is that not what we are doing??? We ARE WWHS Alumni we DO discuss topics ask questions and reminisce. I don't see where we are bound by any rules that we can't add humor to our threads. I don't see where we are not to defend ourselves when someone trashes us.
And I don't recall being told you are limited to the amount of times you can post.

At the graduation ceremony at the high school in Florida where I teach there is cheering as each student's name is called out and he or she receives the diploma. Each year the assistant principal who reads the names of the graduates asks the audience not to cheer as the names are called out so that everyone can hear the names but the audience ignores her. Other than that at least we haven't had any real misbehavior at our graduations.

Message: I was a member of the Usher Club so I attended Baccalaureate at the old WWHS and graduation at the Armory for '64 '65 and my own in '66. Half the teachers would have had coronarys had last years' events taken place then. I would have hated to have to face Mr. Peregoy if I had been involved plus the parents would have beaten their offspring half to death( and not been chastized) on ther spot. Yes things were much different then. WWHS has hit a sad point. I do hope the kids get a nice ceremony that can warm their hearts and memories in years to come. Don't mean to come off as a fuddy-duddy but there are some rituals that insist on decorum and the kids today are no different than we were they just need to learn there are rules of ettiquette for a reason to live in a civilized society.

You say there are rituals that insist on decorum but the students don't see our graduation as one of them. Not anymore at least. We see it as a day to celebrate and have fun. As for the rules of ettiquette kids today still learn them and could apply them if needed.

Message: In a way I agree with you both. Graduation should always uphold it's own etiquette as in the ceremony itself. We celebrated afterward immediately threw our hats and yelled some for glory and some in disbelief that they passed :).
Doug 'the lizard king' Dillon turned on the stage and waved to the croud causing a huge roar and that was about as roudy as it got. I believe that it can be the perfect mix maybe this is the time to learn to give and take maybe not??? I wouldn't have wanted to hear it then but it is all over the Bible to turn to the older ones for direction. Doesn't mean it has to be boring. maybe if someone that's about to graduate had the chance to sit with one of the parents or teachers and simply explain what their graduation meant they wouldn't be so hesitant. Then again after what I witnessed at Marshall last year if I was a professor--which I am not... yet--I wouldn't allow it. They went over board. Always seems to come down to comunication. Trixy you seem to have a bright head on your shoulders influence those who need to hear you. Let them know your reasons for what you want to do and then let them tell you theirs. There is always a middle ground. I wish you the best and once again congratulations
on your acceptance to Marshall and WVU. Post on!

Message: I recently obtained a 1925 yearbook of Beckley High School and will be posting some pictures pretty soon. The yearbook is called the Echo but the school was the building on Kanawha Street that later became BJHS. I was surprised to see Lois Edmundson on the faculty in 1925. I had her at BJHS in the 60s so she taught for at least 40 years. (I remember a couple of students who really gave her a hard time back then!) There is also a picture of Glenn Sallack in the 1925 yearbook although I knew he was around in the '20s. One of the 12th grade students pictured is Christine Clay who I believe is the same Christine Clay who taught at BJHS but I am not sure. There is an ad for the KKK in the yearbook. The newspaper was called the Spotlight as the term Eagle Dispatch couldn't have existed yet because the nickname ""Flying Eagles"" hadn't yet been adopted.

It's so fun to watch the children play wouldn't you say Tonto 007?
You know Tonto nailed it watch their posts. Although we can tell the mood of the person posting if THEY allow us too. Thru caps italics etc. each one of us has specific thought paterns and ways about which we communicate. Sometimes I am very punctual and almost too therapeutic (for the Kellyites) as I type which makes me sit back and relax and act goofy...you know...a song...what ...right now....well...if you insist :)
tune to I'm in Love--E. Presley
Well a bless a my soul what's a wrong with them
They're a posting nasty things about me the King
Who do you think is behind it uh huh huh the Kellyites.
Uh huh huh uh huh huh yea yea the Kellyites.
Well please don't ask them what's on their mind
Cause they're sick and twisted and way behind
When you get on line they scream and shout if it wasn't a message board I throw them out.

To do something because you are told not to is a freeway exit ramp sign that one would be immature. As a person matures they respect authority even if they might not agree with it. Also go tell the scientists at NASA that they can't learn from others mistakes...pick any Dr. scientist researcher and ask them. We all learn from others mistakes everyday. I do understand your point but try mine cause in 5-10 years you will know it and live it and probably agree with me. I stood in your position for some time in my life yes it was as I got older but simply because of the maturation I went through. Getting older doesn't always bring maturity some mature at a younger age. Again please don't take this as a mean stab at you cause it isn't it's just the truth that I learned the hard way through a lot of troubles and stormy weather. Post On!

Once again I know that you're right and I'm not arguing with that. But even with your maturity and infinite wisdom of a parent you cannot say that your kids will not make the same stupid decicions. I know the mistakes I made by following the same rule as you and I remember saying ans thinking the same thing. You are not wrong in your thinking just normal. I hope you are able to learn quicker than I and without the pain. I hope I have children so I can worry about their decisions and where they are what they are doing and how they may get through life without going through the pain I have. My wife is the same. I guess all parents are that way. They corect lead and yes they fuss to guide their children away from the pains they have gone through. Tonto nailed it I mean scalped it good:) when he said ""true words of wisdom"" OK I couldn't resist. I was getting to serious but really he hit it we all change through wisdom. You know God said to raise your child in the church and he'll return to it.??? To return to something you have to leaveit right! He knew we would do things are way even though He has given us a perfect path to follow. Yet we are not perfect we ALL can do a lot better.

Message: I for one will be saying a prayer for you and your wife. It is sad that people who truly want children can't have them...and then there are those who don't want them having them left and right then not taking care of them. I have 3 kids a 6 mnth old 3 yr. old and 9 yr. old. They really keep us hopping!!! But I couldn't imagine my life without them. They can bring you alot of sorrow but the joy they bring outweighs it 10-1!!! Parents don't get instructions from the hospital when we bring these babies home. Everyday is a learning experience for us as well. Trial and error...and what works with one child may not for the next because they are all individuals with different personalities all their own. So Trixy we know our children will make mistakes but I want you to know as a parent of young children we make our mistakes also. I made mistakes with the first one and said""it will be different with the next"" well then we make a whole new set of mistakes with that one. When the 3rd one came same thing ""we made mistakes with the 1st two this one will be different"" Well so far so good (at only 6 months into the game) except that we have him spoiled to the rocking chair!! That boy WILL NOT go to sleep unless you set and rock him and he always wants daddy to do the rocking nobody else will do... Mistake #1...get your child accustomed to going to sleep in many different circumstances...that is if you ever want to go to sleep yourself!!!
I'll shut-up now. Just wanted to let you know at least in my opinion that parents are not perfect and therefore should never expect their children to be.

Perhaps if a group of seniors/class leaders got together and presented a ""plan"" to the administrators or the class had a ""graduation meeting "" a sponsor may come forward. A plan of ""this is what we would like to do "" or ""we would like your cooperation with our graduation "" may be the key.
It sounds like their trust in the senior class needs to be won back and unfortunately it falls on your class' sholders. Usually when a complaint is followed by a plan of action one will get more interest or results. People tend not to listen or tune out if they only hear complaints whining etc. (Not that you're doing either; just trying to make a point.)
Take pride in being a Flying Eagle - a graduating Flying Eagle - and show them you mean business. More importantly show them you care! United you stand divided you fall.

Trixy I agree with 007 you need a plan of action. Sounds to me like the administration is scared...which is a shame. They shouldn't punish your class because of what happened last year. If my oldest son went somewhere and did something he shouldn't have doesn't mean I'm going to keep my 2 younger ones from ever going to that place for fear they might do the same. Am I rattling on??? Well I hope you get the point.
I remember my senior year we were talking about and planning graduation in Sept. It was something we looked forward to from the day school started! That's the way it should be...you will only graduate high school once.

The seniors have presented our plan of what we want for graduation. It was met with ""you can't do it that way"" and ""we won't allow that"". Last year the problem was that for the first time in 4 years graduation was held on the football field. And security guards patrolled the aisles during the ceremony. One young man had some silly string sprayed it in the security guards face and was kicked out of graduation. This happened about half-way through handing out diplomas. After that the other students were upset and got loud and no one could hear the names being called out. As for senior float I can't remember who the teacher was. But we were told that it's up to the seniors to recruit teachers for the ceremony. For calling out names and such. Thanks for the advice!

Why? That's a good question. I think they said something about there being ""trouble-makers"" in the class and something about how the class of 99 was rowdy. All we asked was that 1)we be allowed to have balloons silly string etc. and 2) for there to be a time set aside for us to play with them. We even suggested the very end of the ceremony. But they keep telling us that graduation is supposed to be a serious somber event. Well not anymore. We don't agree. And in a letter sent from the principal to our parents he found that our parents agree with what we want. And after he found that out there hasn't been anymore mention to us about anything. Go figure. Oh well. Thanks you guys for the advice!

Message: I don't see anything unreasonable about balloons and silly string at the end of the ceremony. It sounds like they are forgeting WHO'S graduation this is. My class threw our caps...so what is the difference between that and letting some balloons float away or spraying some silly string?
Ball team coaches get ice water dumped on them during the celebration of a big win...what's the difference? People throw rice and bird seed after a marriage ceremony...again...what's the difference?
All over the world people have celebration traditions... usually after a graduation it is throwing caps.. but where is it written that tradition can't be changed or at least bent a little?
I wish you the best of luck on your quest Trixy. Keep us informed I would be curios to see just HOW unreasonable the administration at WWHS can be... I have 3 children of my own that will be attending Woodrow in the future I can only hope for a change before that day comes.

Message: I agree that at the end of the ceremony that would be nice!! What may have happened is similar to what happended at Marshall last year. It was awful disrespectful and??? They started throwing glitter and that string stuff abnd horns and noise makers and everything as they walked out during the ceremony and at the end. Most of the nursing classes hats were decorated with things hanging off of them. I am a crazy individual I have had my wife tell me I am immature at times but that was rediculous!
With what happened at WWHS last year and Marshall they might be precautious. I understand because you know as well as me someone will spray the string or let ballons go during the ceremony. I see this in my work one acts stupid so all suffer!! I have to make decisions based ont that sometimes too and I don't like it. Trixy WWHS can't stop the graduation or not provide teachers to hand out and serve at the graduation they just can't and they won't. The string thing well they can stop that...as long as they know about it. Man I can't believe I'm doing this...they can't frisk you going in you have rights. You can be thrown out of graduation caremonies (and still get your deploma) they have rights. You can just about do anything (legal) at the end. You might not be able to hide ballons but you can hide noise makers and canned string! Just don't let some do it during the ceremony.
One other thing...the papers love this kind of stuff they will eat it up and WWHS will have to answer you. Don't mention the things you want to do just the ngativity you have received. Good luck keep us posted.

It's a scary thought to think that one day on the last day of school seniors will be handed their diploma as they leave school. (""Buh-bye now. Thank you for learning with us here at WWHS.)
I'm afraid the administrators are trying to protect everyone from everything and are erring on the side of caution albeit too much caution.
Surprisingly the Cigar King has a point though.(Just kidding King-man!) The media would eat this alive! If brought out in the papers the administrators would HAVE to respond. There's nothing a school University state or government agency hates worse than nosey reporters.
I strongly disagree with the King-man's offer of ""hiding"" things. Remember this is a WWHS web site. You don't think someone already knows?!?

Well last year after the boy was thrown out of graduation several parents and students wrote editorials to the Register-Herald. There were letters about it in the paper for days. The problem with involving the media is that the same thing would happen. A letter digned by all the seniors would appear in the paper and then people would begin to respond. Far too many don't remember throwing their caps and having fun on their graduation day. Their adults now and for some reason they all think they're right. And they're negative towards us. Which in turn would give the administration another leg to stand on. But I'll pass the idea along. As for keeping things secret it's a little late for that anyhow. Our requests have already been presented to the administration. As for sending your kids to WWHS no one wants to admit it but it's still the best school in the county. WWHS offers more elective and AP courses then anyone else. However you could probably look into that yourself and I definitely would if the school does in fact lose it's accredidation(sp?) at the end of this year. Anyways I'll keep you all updated. Later!

Message: This new principal sounds like a real winner. I don't think that Miller would have ever let this happen. I was part of the class of '96 and I'm pretty sure that we started all of the chaos. I remember sitting on the backrow and blowing up beach balls. That's as far as it went though. The best part of the entire event was that the parents got the blame from the faculty. They thought the balls came out of the stands. I know that there are at least 1 or 2 faculty members that still genuinely care about you guys. If they don't it's really sad because you are the future of that town. If they treat you like s--- now what will you be willing to give back in the future?

No they can't until tests are taken again this spring. See we were put on probation 2 years ago and every school gets 3 years to meet the guidelines after probation starts. So it can't be officially announced because it hasn't officially happened. And if that's not the truth then there are going to be some very pissed off parents and graduates when they find out that their HS wasn't accredited. And they get rejected from some of the best schools in the country because of it.

Message: Why was WWHS put on suspension?!? Did it quit meeting state guidelines or something? (Too many beach balls thrown at graduation?) I'm confused. What happens if it doesn't ""pass"" after the spring tests?
WWHS was is and should always be a great school. What happened? I'm very proud to say that I'm a WWHS graduate. I have some distant family members that went to Shady for 2 reasons - 1. They lived in that school district; and 2. They are prejudiced. They didn't want their kids going to school with ""certain"" people. I will always be astonished saddened and perplexed by that second reason. But now they probably have something to gloat about - WWHS losing its accredidation. Sad isn't it?
Please keep us posted on the latest ""stuff"" Trixy. Maybe we can help in some small way.

Message: The school has not lost accreditation.....yet. This decision is based on poor performance on standardized tests. Too large a percentage of students scored below the 25th percentile. An improvement plan will or has been written...I'm not sure if it's in place. I'm like you 007 I'm proud to be a WW grad. I hope this mess is cleaned up for the sake of the kids and community.
